NADRA
Last Updated: August 2026
Most pages on this subject list a phone number and stop. Three things are more useful. NADRA’s IVR can tell you your application status without waiting for an operator. NADRA publishes no SMS short code at all, despite what the widely-copied guides say. And if NADRA itself is the problem, there is a free escalation route above it that almost nobody writes about.
Every channel NADRA publishes
This is the complete list from NADRA’s own customer support page and site footer, with nothing added.
| Channel | Detail | What NADRA says it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Call Center | 1777 | Identity services, application status, complaints and general guidance, 24/7 |
| From outside Pakistan | +92 51 111 786 100 | The same service, listed as 24/7 |
| IVR | Automated, on the same number | Service information, status tracking and guidance without waiting for an operator |
| csd@nadra.gov.pk | Queries, feedback and service concerns, with a documented response | |
| Complaint portal | complaints.nadra.gov.pk | Formal complaints, tracked through NADRA’s monitoring system |
| PakID app | Official NADRA app | Applications, payments and status tracking in the app |
| Social media | Linked from NADRA’s media centre | Updates and responses to public queries |
| Podcast | Question and answer sessions | Frequently asked questions and guidance |
Note that the same number is quoted for complaints as for general queries, and that NADRA’s footer lists csd@nadra.gov.pk specifically against “Complaint” rather than as a general enquiry address.
Use the IVR before you queue
The most underused channel on the list. In NADRA’s own words, callers can use the automated system to “access information about services, track application status, and receive guidance without waiting for an operator“.
If all you need is a status check, that is the whole errand, and it does not depend on queue length or time of day. Have your Tracking ID ready rather than your CNIC number, since the tracking ID is what identifies an application. Our guide to checking your CNIC status covers the other routes.
What NADRA does not publish
Worth stating plainly, because guides fill these gaps with numbers that look official and are not.
- No SMS short code. We checked the customer support page, the fee structure, the CNIC page, the NICOP page and the verification services section. The widely repeated 8400 appears nowhere on NADRA’s site. It may well work, but treat it as undocumented rather than official, and see tracking by SMS.
- No statement that 1777 is free. NADRA describes it as a 24/7 call centre number and says nothing about charging. Anyone telling you it is confirmed toll-free is adding that themselves. Check with your own operator.
- No complaint turnaround target. NADRA publishes no service level for resolving a complaint, which is precisely why you should keep your reference number.
- No published email response time for csd@nadra.gov.pk.
Filing a formal complaint
NADRA runs an online complaint portal at complaints.nadra.gov.pk, which it describes as tracking and resolving service-related issues through its official monitoring system. The portal offers two functions, registering a complaint and tracking progress on one already filed.
Keep the reference number the portal gives you. Since NADRA publishes no target turnaround, that number is the only thing that lets you follow up on a specific case rather than starting again.
Be specific when you write. Name the service you applied for, the date you applied, your tracking ID, and what has actually gone wrong. A complaint that says an application is delayed, without saying which application, cannot be actioned by anyone.
If NADRA itself is the problem
This is the part that is missing from every guide we compared, and it is the most valuable thing on this page. NADRA is a federal body, so it sits inside the Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman) system, and there is a dedicated office for Pakistanis abroad.
The Office of the Grievance Commissioner and Senior Advisor for Overseas Pakistanis takes complaints against federal ministries, departments, organisations and agencies regarding maladministration, delay, inattention or injustice. Its own terms are the striking part: “For filing complaint neither lawyer nor any Fee is required.” Complaints arrive by email, online or by post, are handled daily, and complainants are updated by email, WhatsApp, voice message and phone.
| Route | Detail |
|---|---|
| Helpline within Pakistan | 1055 |
| From other countries | 0092 51 9213886 and 0092 51 9213887 |
| Hours | Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 21:30 |
| Online | mohtasib.gov.pk |
| Postal | Office of the Wafaqi Mohtasib, 36 Constitution Avenue, Islamabad |
| Cost | None. No lawyer required |
Two further arrangements come from the same office and are worth knowing if you live abroad. Every Pakistan mission and consulate has an appointed Focal Person and sets aside one day a week for meeting overseas Pakistanis about grievances, with monthly open sessions held by heads of mission. And One Window Facilitation Desks operate at eight international airports in Pakistan, staffed 24/7 by representatives of twelve agencies including NADRA.
- Islamabad International Airport
- Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore
- Jinnah International Airport, Karachi
- Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar
- Quetta International Airport
- Multan International Airport
- Sialkot International Airport
- Faisalabad International Airport
These are an Ombudsman initiative rather than a NADRA one, which is why they do not appear on NADRA’s own contact page. If you are flying in or out and something is stuck, that desk is staffed at any hour. Our guide to dealing with NADRA from abroad covers the overseas centres and counters.
Checking SIMs registered against your CNIC
A common reason people call NADRA, and it is the wrong number. This service belongs to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, not NADRA. In PTA’s words, a “subscriber can send his CNIC to 668 through SMS and in return he would receive detail of total SIMs against his CNIC alongwith name of the mobile company”. Dialling *668# triggers the same reply. If there is a discrepancy, PTA directs you to the operator’s own Customer Service Centre.
Use 668 and nothing else. Several third-party sites rank well for this query and offer to return an owner’s name and address for any CNIC number, which is not a service you should be feeding your own CNIC into.
Getting a useful answer
- Have the tracking ID in front of you. It is the first thing an agent asks for, and it is what the IVR needs.
- Call outside working hours. The line is staffed 24/7, so an early morning or late evening call is a legitimate way around a daytime queue.
- Say what service, when, and what went wrong. In that order.
- Write down the reference number for any complaint, and the agent’s name if they give it.
- Escalate rather than repeat. If the same query gets the same non-answer twice, the complaint portal, and then the Ombudsman, are the next steps.
Common mistakes
- Texting a short code you found in a guide. NADRA publishes none.
- Assuming 1777 is free. NADRA does not say so.
- Queueing for an operator to check a status. The IVR does it.
- Quoting your CNIC number instead of your tracking ID. The tracking ID identifies the application.
- Calling NADRA about SIM registrations. That is PTA, on 668.
- Stopping at NADRA. The Ombudsman route is free and takes complaints about delay and inattention.
- Losing the complaint reference number. With no published turnaround, it is your only handle on the case.
The channel list, the 24/7 statement, the IVR description and the complaint portal are from NADRA’s customer support page and site footer. The Grievance Commissioner terms, helpline numbers, focal person arrangement and airport desks are from the Wafaqi Mohtasib’s overseas Pakistanis initiative page. The SIM check wording is from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. All read on 29 August 2026. Phone numbers and hours can change without notice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions about this topic.
What is the NADRA helpline number?
1777 from within Pakistan, and +92 51 111 786 100 from abroad. NADRA lists both as available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for identity services, application status, complaints and general guidance.
Is 1777 free to call?
NADRA does not say. It describes 1777 as its 24/7 call centre number and publishes nothing about charging, so any guide stating it is confirmed toll-free is adding that itself. Check with your own mobile operator.
Can I check my application status without speaking to anyone?
Yes. NADRA’s automated IVR lets callers track application status and get guidance without waiting for an operator, in its own words. Have your Tracking ID ready rather than your CNIC number.
Does NADRA have an SMS number for tracking?
No published one. We checked NADRA’s customer support page, fee structure, CNIC page, NICOP page and verification services section, and no SMS short code appears on any of them. The widely repeated 8400 is undocumented by NADRA.
How do I file a formal complaint against NADRA?
Through NADRA’s online complaint portal at complaints.nadra.gov.pk, which lets you register a complaint and track progress. Keep the reference number it gives you, because NADRA publishes no target turnaround for resolving complaints.
What can I do if NADRA does not resolve my complaint?
Escalate to the Wafaqi Mohtasib, the Federal Ombudsman, which takes complaints against federal bodies for maladministration, delay, inattention or injustice. Its overseas Pakistanis office states that neither a lawyer nor any fee is required. The helpline is 1055 within Pakistan, or 0092 51 9213886 and 0092 51 9213887 from abroad.
Is there NADRA help at Pakistani airports?
Yes. One Window Facilitation Desks operate 24/7 at eight international airports, at Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Sialkot and Faisalabad, staffed by twelve agencies including NADRA. They are a Federal Ombudsman initiative, which is why they are not listed on NADRA’s own contact page.
How do I check how many SIMs are registered on my CNIC?
That is the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, not NADRA. Send your CNIC number by SMS to 668, or dial *668#, and you will get the number of SIMs registered against it with the name of each mobile company. Avoid third-party sites offering the same lookup.
